Default Bold 9000 Exception Error

Please Login to Remove!

First... yes I have read the topics I can find on this issue and they are not resolving the problem.

Second... yes I have pulled the battery and rebooted the unit numerous times.

Third I have cleared the memory and rebooted with no effect.

I'm getting an error message on bootup "Java.Lang.NullPointerException".

It is effecting my message box, mail is not pushing through. I get the notification chirp every time a new mail message comes in, but it does not show in the message box.

I've checked the tech forums, AT&T tech support is closed for the night. Tried downloading the new OS from blackberry, but when I connect the unit to the computer and run the blackberry desktop software I can not back up my blackberry and I get a fatal error when I try to upgrade the OS which is supposed to automatically back up data as part of the process. The desktop manager also says it can not connect to the blackberry when I hook it up, although it does recognize the PIN and the applications on the unit... so it is seeing it.

I'm at a loss guys, help me out.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

HELP, how do I get the software to to upgrade. An OS re-install is supposed to be the fix for this error.

Hi

Please check this.... Thank you...

Make sure you loaded the phone software as well as the Desktop Manager. These are two separate software's and it sounds like you do not have the 9700 driver loaded as your system does not seem to find it. If you have the handheld software loaded, the Desktop Manager should see it.

Regards;

Herb

Did you download the latest version (non-AT&T) from the link at the top of the 9000 forum? Install that on your pc, delete the vendor.xml file, and run Desktop Manager's updater/installer.

Yes, and when I try to run the launcher it starts the process and stops pretty quickly and gives a critical failure message.

Like I said, I've read the threads and tried pretty much everything including running the desktop on two different machines in case it was an issue with the computer running the desktop software.

Sounds like it's time to wipe with JL_Commander and then do the reload.

How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ
This is an awesome utility to wipe your BB back to factory fresh settings. After it runs successfully you should get the Error 507 on your BlackBerry signifying there is no OS installed. Then you can run Desktop Manager and put the latest/greatest OS onto your Bold. Be advised, sometimes it is necessary to run JL_Commander multiple times to get it to wipe your device. I had to run it like 20 times once, but it's easy and fast. Just a couple of mouse clicks and a couple of seconds.

It is still under warranty, should I give AT&T tech support a shot at this before taking this step? Don't want to void the warranty.

Cause of the issue
The device software or software application component has failed, or there is corrupt data from a wired or wireless synchronization.
Workaround
Clear the Address Book database on the device.
1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Click Backup and Restore, and selectAdvanced.
3. From the Handheld Databases list, selectAddress Book.
4. Click Clear. Go back to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window.
5. Synchronize the Address Book with the correct translator in Intellisync®. For more information on selecting the correct translator in Intellisync, please see KB-00074.

I tried that, sadly it does not work. When I try to go to advanced it shows blank windows. No databases to work with.

Thank you for your effort. I think AT&T is going to have to replace the device.

Issue resolved after two hours on the phone with AT&T and eventually speaking with RIM directly. Thank you for all of your efforts. Greatly appreciated!
