Question Contract

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, So you are probably wondering why I am posting about a Blackberry. Please do not be hateful but I have tried everywhere else and I cannot find any answers that will help whatsoever because people are telling me yes and no. I would love to get a blackberry curve 8320 this summer and I am only 14 and my parents expect me to pay my own bill. I would like to get the phone without the data plan. I realize a lot of people have told me that it has no value besides texting and calling without the data plan, but I am going to use the wifi feature on it for my data purposes. Please help me and tell me if it requires a data plan. If I get my Blackberry on eBay and they detect my Blackberry and add $30 on my bill, can I call and get it cancelled.? Thank you all for understanding my dilema, and thank you for your answers in advance.(:

Welcome to the forums. All major carriers are requiring a BlackBerry data plan on BlackBerry devices in the United States.

ATT will require THE BlackBerry Data Plan to be added to your account. Require.

WiFi for data will suffice ONLY for the Hotspot internet browser and some third party applications, and without that Data Plan, WiFi cannot be used for things like RIM push email, Facebook, BlackBerry Messenger, etc.

You can get the charge cancelled maybe, and it will get added back.

Good luck, and congrats on being responsible to ask these questions ahead of time, and for being willing to pay your bill yourself.

Oh, Tmobile, does offer the BlackBerry without requiring the Data Plan, but again, even with WiFi, certain features will be non-existent.

ATT wont cancel the plan unless you get a phone only device, update it with them, and then they will take off the data, but once the system detects the blackberry, it will just add it right back on

Tmobile does require it now. When i upgraded my 8900 to 9700 it forces you to choose a blackberry data plan. This was aprox 2 months ago

Wirelessly posted

This is from personal experience so don't quote me on this. With ATT while under contract you will be forced to have a BB data plan. However if your not under contract you do not have to have it. But...you will be not be able to text. The phone will be good for phone calls only. That one text you get from someone will force the system to put the data plan on it. Now that being said you can block text messages and get a way with it. But...I highly doubt a kid your age or most adults either would want a phone they could not text with.

This is what my father does on ATT. He has the texting blocked and uses my old curve as a phone and somewhat of a pocket organizer/calendar and such and he does not pay for a data plan.
