Default Two BES servers, one BESAdmin account

Please Login to Remove!

At one site, we have a Exchange 2003 server and a BES server running fine. At another site, we have Exchange 2007 and a BESX server.

The sites are connected by a somewhat flakey VPN but a stable IP link will be installed soon. We are currently using 2 BESAdmin accounts. Just wondering if the BESAdmin account has to have a mailbox on the same Exchange servers as the users, ie can we use the BESX server to service users on the Exchange 2003 and the Exchange 2007 servers?

It would be best to have the remote BESX server connected to the remote Exchange server and the BESAdmin2 account on the remote exchange 2007 server.

If exchange 2003 goes down at all, BESX on 2007 will go down as well unless the account is on 2007.
Hopefully you have a GC at remote site as well.

Nah, it does not matter.

You can have 1 BESAdmin account servicing 20+ Exchange Servers.
You can have 1 BESAdmin account for EACH BES Server.
You can have 20+ Exchange Servers connecting to 1 BES.
You can have 1 Exchange Server connecting to 20+ BES Servers.
etc....

I like the idea of having a BESAdmin account local to the BES and also a BES that is close to an Exchange Server.

If the ping response time is greater then 20ms then I would recommend adding another service account. Microsoft recommends 30ms and RIM recommends 35ms when dealing with MAPI. Otherwise, they will try to blame the issue on your latency... lol

Thanks...I did try and setup the BESX server with the BESAdmin account at the remote site but the handsets wouldn't activate. I do believe it was due to the poor link.

It's all working fine now with 2 BESAdmin accounts but just wanted to check for future reference.

Cheers
