Default Random Resets

Please Login to Remove!

A few days ago, my Bold 9000 began to reset itself about every 7-10 minutes. Everything works fine, then bam, reset. I've tried several things to fix the problem, but to no avail. No matter what happens, the BB keeps restarting until the battery is drained.

Tried thus far:

1) Battery pull
2) Reinstalling software
3) Inserting paper shims to see if the battery connection might be loose.
4) Using different batteries to see if it's only a battery issue

The weird thing is, when the BB is connected to my computer, it doesn't reset at all. It has gone hours without a reset, just as if everything is normal. I haven't dropped the phone or anything recently, so I don't know what's going on.

Any help would be appreciated.

What OS are you running now?

What did you just prior to the resets beginning?

My suggestion would be to go back tot he OS that the BB shipped with and start from there.

Currently running 5.0.0.822, and haven't had a single problem with it before the resets.

And to my knowledge, nothing happened prior to the resets. The phone was charging, and a few minutes after unplugging, it began resetting. It worked before I plugged it in.

Maybe there was a power surge?

Does the BlackBerry charge normally? Does it appear that the battery charge indicator is more or less accurate? Was battery life ok before this started? Does the BlackBerry feel warmer than usual?

The fact that you've tried different batteries, and the fact that it doesn't reboot when on a charger, makes me suspect something in the power circuitry. I searched a little and didn't come across anything. I have no clue if it is something you can fix. I tend to doubt it.

Yeah it charges normally. Like I said, everything works perfectly, then it restarts. Then it works normally again for 7-10 minutes, then another reset. I tried it with new battery too, so it's definitely not a bad battery.

I figured it was something hardware, too. I might be out of luck.

I know you said you reinstalled the software, and I still suspect hardware, but is there a newer OS than the one you are using. It's probably futile, but what about doing an upgrade and see what happens?

Another thought...When you reinstalled the software, did you try running the device stock for a while, before restoring third-party apps? If not, I would backup and try that....it's worth a try, unless you are really itching to get a new device anyway.
