Does anyone know why the BB Torch doesn't come with a Memory cleaner app, preloaded?

And what did it do for you? More accurately, what do you THINK it did.

HINT: It didn't free up any memory

All it did was overwrite unused areas of memory.
It didn't clean up anything...

So has the memory leak issue been sorted with the latest release of the BB OS?

Memory leaks are caused by poorly written third party programs that don't release memory when done.

A weekly battery pull will do this if you're experiencing slowdowns. Memory leak was solved almost completely with OS 4.6, and models newer than the 88xx series were nearly immune from the beginning.

Like NJBlackBerry said, the culprit was shoddily coded third-party apps. RIM had tightened it's requirements for new apps. There may be the odd theme out there that causes issues, but that's about it now.
