Default UK Upgrade advice needed.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all

I have a work colleague who uses a Blackberry 8900 and loves it.

I'd like to upgrade her to a new Blackberry (she won't change platforms).

My choices are:

9900 Bold
9780 Bold
9360 Curve

I am really impressed by the 9900 (but that's my choice as an iPhone user) - not sure if the 9360 is a big enough improvement.

I'm just trying to find out if I'm missing anything glaring.

Why not find out which one she wants? You really need her input as she will be the user, not you.

Does she like touch screens or not?

Why does she need to upgrade to a new device if she loves her current one??

It's kind of a thank you for doing a great job.

She hates the torch. I have tried to question her subtly, but it's not easy.

Maybe a gift card toward the purchase of a new one. Not everyone likes the touch screen - one of the reasons I left the iPhone to return to the BB.

I was kind of after some technical advice, that's why I came on Blackberryforums to ask.

I was hoping to hear from people who had moved from the 8900 to one of the other devices and could tell me their thoughts on it.

Still, if "get her a gift certificate" is the best advice I can expect, then maybe I'm asking in the wrong place?

Please understand that this forum is not associated with Research in Motion, the makers of BlackBerry.

Further, we cannot give you that advice. Only the person using the device will know which is best for them. There is nothing really technical that we can advise you about as BlackBerry OS is BlackBerry OS. There are no fundamental differences across the range. The only differences are screens and keyboards.

Best of luck to you.

Wow. This place has changed quite a bit since I had a Blackberry then.

It used to be full of people helping with their opinions and comparisons. Giving advice on which handsets offer which benefits (in their opinion) to the user.

What do you talk about these days then?

We used to provide our opinions to people about which devices we liked and it was not appreciated and we got burnt, so we stopped wasting our time.

It would be difficult to choose a mobile device for someone you do not know. A device that a person is going to be using everyday for the next 'x' amount of time. The 9900 and 9360 both run OS 7.0, the 9780 does not. I personally did not like the typing experience on the 9360. I had a 9780 and that was a good mule, with excellent battery life and solid perfomance (except for the dreaded double tap feature...I mean bug). I currently own a 9900, and I really enjoy using it. Difficult choice to be sure...

So I would forget about what phone does what and just tell her you have a lunch meeting she has to be at (Wherever you are near, Leeds Shopping Plaza or one of those mobile places on Kirkgate) and tell her it's time to choose a new Berry. She will be happy and will get the right device, you will be happy for being a bawse!! It's a win/win.

Thanks ZombieBerry - that's good advice.

dc/dc - It's a real shame the forum has turned out like that. I, for one, considered it to be my 'go to' place for all opinions Blackberry. I used to spend hours trawling through posts.

It's such a shame people don't appreciate the resource, and I can understand why people are now reluctant to offer opinion.
