I've just setup a replacement BES Express 5.0.4 box running on 2008 R2.

Latest CDO/MAPI installed, IEMSTEST works just fine, my Blackberry was migrated to it and all appears well, however every day at 00:30 I see the following in the Windows Event Logs:

SCS::LoadHomeMDB - ldap_search_st failed with 32, 32.

Would anyone have any suggestions whether these are anything to be concerned about please?

Our current (hopefully soon to be previous) BES Express 5.0.3 box has never done this.

Return Values (Windows)

Are the return values of the (windows) function. 32 is 0x20, and 0x20 means: LDAP_NO_SUCH_OBJECT

Do you have other log entries starting with:
[30000] (12/12 00:30:05.104):{0xFB8} RefreshAddressLookupEntries called
and ending with:
[30000] (12/12 00:30:38.246):{0x120C} MailStoreExchange::RefreshGALUsingLDAP - page 1 grand total read - 992 grand total inserted 914

but with no error messages in between, which appear in the logs during the day ?

Ony my BES, this also is happening on the same time, but without error messages . Looks like the BES has an automatic schedule.

You can manually force the refresh on the BES console:
Create user,
press search,
on the bottom of the page, there is "refresh availible user list from company directory"
press the button, wait for 15 minutes, then look in to the log again.

If this runs without errors, then I would look for something like a backup running at this time, which puts load on the server or the DC.

If you still get the errors look into the Eventlog of you GC for errors.
