Exclamation BES & Attachment Service

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all!

I am running BES 3.6 SP7 and have the Attachment Service installed and running. When I send any one of the compatible documents (PDF, DOC, etc...) to my e-mail I can see the [1 Attachment] link. I click on it and get the Table of Contents and Full Content however....

When I download the attachment it says "Document Conversion Failed". I can't seem to view any attachments. I've reinstalled the attachment service but to no avail. Please help!!

Our CEO is really pushing to be able to view PDF's. I thought we could so I told him so. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW- We only have 5 people using Blackberry's. I'll read this document but I don't think performance is the issue.

I don't believe that all PDF formats are supported. You can test out an attachment by using the Attachment Server Configuration tool on your BES to see if it is a file issue.

Thanks for that tidbit... I did test it using the Test Attachment Service and it successfully converted the file and I could view it.

Now why won't the Blackberry do that??? Handhelds are using the latest OS (4.1).

Not sure...haven't heard that the attachment service was able to translate a document but not the handheld, this is supposed to mirror the functionality on the handheld. Are any of the handhelds able to open the attachment?

No. All handhelds get a conversion failed error.

There is another option...sometimes an attachment can be too large or complex to distill for viewing on the handheld. If this happens, you will receive this error. The user will have to open it on his desktop. If you have T-support, you can go to the following link for more information:

I have tested that as well. I created a PDF and a DOC both under 200kb. It still didn't work.

Unfortunately, I don't have T-Support.

The AS (attachment server) cannot convert any PDF's which only contain images. Most of the times PDF's which seem to contain just text are in reality scanned documents (tif's) en thus images.

Can you check some other PDF's? Create a PDF based on text and try it.

Thanks for that too, but I created a PDF with just text in it (from a Word Doc) and it still doesn't work.

It's not just PDF's, it's all attachments come up with the same error.

I'm administrator of Domino BES but I dun know if this apply to Exchange? Is your Attachment Service installed on the same box where your BES is installed? If yes, you may like to consider installing it on another computer. This is a suggestion to offload attachment servicing...

Yes, it is on the same server. I will try it on a different server. I know it's not a performance issue since we only have 5 Blackberry's in use.

No, table of contents does not work either.

I appreciate everyone's help with this.

Default You might try this

Is is all attachments or just PDF's? I did run into a situation all was set up and working fine, then stopped one day. Ending up being something with the temp directory or environment variable for the temp directory. I changed the temp directory variable to point to a new temporary directory I set up and that resolved it.

Default Slightly Different Problem with Attachments

Hi,
I have BES version 3.6 sp7 installed and have the Atachement service running on the system. I have tested the attchment service using the configuration tool for both contents and summary which work fine.

However when an email gets sent with an attachment I don't seem to have the option on the BB to open attachment. ihave tried reseting the Handset and recreating the account on the BES. The handset is running the latest vodafone software (4.0). What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

Could it be a result of blocked ports on our router?? Has anyone had to open specific ports?
