Default 8700G Review

Please Login to Remove!

Here is my review of the 8700 on T-Mobile;

I have previously used the 7100, the 7105, and 7290. I have also used the Treo 600 and 650.

The screen: blows all other BB out of the water!

Keyboard: Much better than the Treo line and way better than the 7100 series. It is qwerty and that says it all. I do like the 7290 ketboard better though. The 8700 is a bit cramped but it is workable!

Speed: WOW EDGE is faaaaast! Blows past BB's away and smokes the Treo's

Stability of OS: Never had a single problem with the BB OS as it is rock solid! Never reboots or freezes! The Treos were junk in this department with constant reboots, lock ups and reboots! You gotta love the BB OS!

Themes: the 8700 is the most user friendly BB to date! Am using the Zen theme and while it does take getting use to for us traditional BB users it does rock!

Phone: So far it is awesome! Strong signal strenght, crystal clear reception at both ends! This thing actually does very good as a phone!

Email: it is a BB enough said

SMS: Awesome for txt messages. I did like the Treo 650 format a bit better but the 8700 holds it's own here as well.

That's all for now. Will keep posting as I play with it more!

The 8700 is hands down the best BB to date!!!!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Thanks. After using a 7100 for a couple weeks and a 7290 for 10 months, I completely agree with everything you said.

Cheers, Rich

Yep - I agree. It's definitely the best yet for me...

The 7100 / 7105 is a nice little device and it has it's pluses but when compared to the 8700 it really shows it's weaknesses.

I enjoyed the 7100 series but now that I have the 8700 in hand I can never look back!

I really don't know why everyone is saying it feels cheap. While not as heavy as the 7290 I think the 8700 feels pretty solid. The keys are not loose and I have been tying like a crazy man on it!

I am still trying to get used to typing on the full qwerty keyboard. I am twice as fast at typing on my 7100/7105t. Although it gets annoying with the see/are, etc typos you have to go back and fix.

I too have used the 7100, 7290 and now the 8700g. It is a GREAT device. Migration from the 7290 was easy. The screen is awesome.

My only nitpicky issue is that they moved the 0 and SYM keys next to the SPACE bar. I keep hitting these instead of the caps.

I've had the 8700g since Monday and so far it's been great. I've never had a blackberry phone(have had a blackberry email pda though) and this new phone seems to be pretty cool. Websurfing is great, IM is fine with Ramble(althought not close to my old SK2). Screen is awesome...really bright and clear.

The only thing that I'm concerned about is that the reception is a bit lower than my old SK2(at least at my home) and my battery meter goes down to about 25-30% by the time i'm home at night. I bought an extra charger and car charger from ebay so hopefully those will come in handy.

I too got mine on Monday and it's quite an amazing device. Coming from using the 7230 and 7290, this thing rocks! it's smaller, lighter, beautiful screen, speedy internet and overall sweet! I am just a little dissapointed that they did not incorporate the ringers/alerts from the 7230/7290 to the 8700. I compared this with a co-worker's Treo 700 and the 8700 blew it out of the water!

Altert tones on the 8700 are much louder than on the 7290. That was by far the main thing I hated about the 7290. Even on loud you could not hear them.I am still loving the 8700. Way to go RIM!

Thanks for the reviews. I am considering an 8700g on my next upgrade. I have used a 7730 before so I know about the keyboard. Keep the reviews coming and maybe I'll get one before then LMAO
