Hi.
Have you ever used your BB on non-BB network (quite a few of them still).
I mean using GPRS simple data.
Do you have 'GPRS' or 'gprs' icon on these networks?

I'm pretty sure most show 'gprs' in those situations. At least our users' are reporting that's what they've been seeing

So that means noe data services can be used in that situation right?

I'm still trying to force BB to run GPRS on non BB network.
Have no idea which side the problem lies on. Hope it's just some simlock.
I cannot even send SMS over GPRS.

lower case gprs means that the handheld is trying to authenticate to the network. most of the time where you would see this is when you are roaming on a carrier who doesn't have a data roaming agreement with your carrier. there may also be issues of APN settings, but chances of this being the issue are slim.

each GSM carrier has a master database with the IMEI numbers of all the handhelds on the network, as well as the network also has to be configured to allow specific models of handhelds as well, which may be the root of your issues. if a non-blackberry network has not added the IMEI device numbers for blackberry models as a whole, they will not be authenticated or allowed onto the network.

I thought about the conclusion you mentioned. May be my carrier does not accept blackberry devices.

It is definetly not a roaming issue (I use it on my home network, besides my carrier have roaming agreement with device's origin network).
Having done MEDP on SIM Card settings and looks like no sim lock is set for the device.

I'll contact my carrier. Maybe they will provide me more info.

A data roaming agreement? Just because there is a voice agreement doesn't mean there is a data agreement, and from what I have read you cannot get any type of data connection.

If you are sure there is a data roaming agreement, then it's most likely the device type isn't supported...

Yes. Both networks have data roaming agreement.
Indeed, no data transfer succeeded so far.

We've primarily had this problem between Ireland and Italy. Even though there is a GPRS roaming agreement between the carriers, users roaming don't get more than a lower case gprs - and this happens no matter which carrier you select.

If you are sure that there is a GPRS roaming agreement, then there's one fix that we've used in the past that might work. I'm not 100% sure why it works (perhaps someone here can explain it! ) but it's part of the list of things we now try if we have a problem with a roaming user.


Firstly, you'll need a mobile phone that supports GPRS.

Take the SIM out of the BB, put it into the Mobile phone and activate the GPRS service (doesn't matter what you do - just go to one of the generic bookmarks).

Put the SIM back into the Blackberry and do a reset.

Turn wireless back on and do a manual network select.

I don't know if this is applicable to your problem, but it's worth a try!
