I see that YM is now available for all carriers with the exception of Cingular. Anyone know why, or when they will be added??

My guess is because they would have to go on record for supporting 3rd party apps.

I have talked to Cingular online, and on the phone. They have told me they will NOT SUPPORT YAHOO IM! If I was not in a contract I would switch to tmobile. They do NOT CARE what the users want.. They cant even give a stright reply on the BIS 2.0!!!!
You can goto tmoble and save $20 a month for the dataplan and get the IM included! and BIS 2.0.

Cingular.... Pay more....Get less!

Hello -I am brand new here and love all the great information available. I just saw YM working on an 8700c (Cingular) - it was working fine communicating with an 8700g on T-Mobile. Both devices were unlocked if that matters.

I kept telling the two users that I have read here that YM will not work on a cingular device but I witnessed the instant messages going back and forth. They both simply downloaded the YM directly to their devices - no third party software involved.

Can anyone share with me how this is working for them so easily?

Thank you

Sure it will work on a 8700c that is UNLOCKED and on a DIFFERENT network. It will NOT work on the Cingular network and I am told it will NOT.. IF it is please let me know.. this would be the first I heard of it.

Sorry if I was not clear - Yes, the 8700c IS on the Cingular network and the 8700g is on the T-Mobile network. Both devices are unlocked but on their native networks...they both have YM installed normally and I saw it working - they were having an IM chat right in front of me.

Hmmmm... I just called Cingular again and they still said it will not work on the Cingular network.

I still dont see how it is working for you. This is the Rim yahoo messenger? Look under the service books and see if there is one in there for Yahoo. Even get a a screenshot of it if you can.

Cingular may "say" it doesn't work, but they may not know if an unlocked phone can do it or not. Screen shots would help those of us with Cingular who would like to YM.

I dont think it matters weather the phone is unlocked or not. It is on the network and it gets the same service books that a "locked" phone gets. Unlocking a phone doe snot enable anything more then moving the phone to another network.

Screen shots would be nice. Also I cant even download it from blackberry.com/go/yahoo any longer. it errors out on my phone... NOt sure if its me or they disabled installing to a 8700c again.

Default Yahoo IM works just fine on Cinguars Network

I use it all the time on my Sony Erricson S710a - as a matter of fact itcan preloaded with it.

Also - the Yahoo web messenger works with the BB browser - just not as slick as the full client.

This is not a network issue.

For whatever reason my 8700c on Cingular does work with Yahoo IM. I have the BBFS2 service book for it and everything. It's not unlocked. I'm the Blackberry admin at my company and the 4 other people I tried to install it on does not get the service book. I think it's just a fluke that it worked for me. Shame since I don't even use Yahoo for IM, I just installed it to test.

I wonder if it's because you are on a BES.

I was referring to the Yahoo Client... I was just stating that the web app works too.

To have the Yahoo messenger running on the 8700c you would need a service book... does not matter if you are on a BES or a BIS. The service book would be

Yahoo! Messenger [YHO]

So if you are on the Cingular network and you are using the Yahoo IM you HAVE to have that service book. And the book is NOT provided to Cingular users so I still dont see how you have it working. Guess you are the only one here that has it working....

sorry, but unfortunately I can not get a screen shot - the two devices I saw were my co-workers - we were in Orlando last week for the SAP event...now I am home in Charlotte and they are back in Chicago. Plus I have no idea of how to caputure a screen shot from a BB :( maybe it was the web version rather than BB if that works on the 8700
