Downloading and installing now...will post feedback.

I hope this doesn't screw things up. My blackberry 7100g with the stock software has been ROCK solid since I got it.

Will post back.

Installed and running...

Apps 4.0.0.219

Too early to report differences but OH MY GOD I love Blackberry's software upgrades...it's like nothing happened...everything was restored perfectly..including OTA apps.

I know it's been like this for a while but it's sad how Blackberry is the only one that can do something like this SO WELL!!

I'll post if I notice any changes.

I just deleted the vendor.xml. Hopefully that will fix everything.

[EDIT =Can anyone throw me a bone? I am trying to put this latest version on and it just won't go. The only thing that I now see is the ability to update my add on themes. I would have thought there was more to this./]

Thanks,

John

Can someone with the stock 7100g software (4.0.0.198) post their total memory size that's posted in status?

I could swear it was less than with this newer software...with 4.0.0.219 I now have:

29,491,200 bytes for File total. It could just be me.

I never had a single problem with my 7100g with the older software except dissapointment in the battery life so maybe this new software may help with that????

ALRIGHT!! After installing 4.0.0.274...my 7100g modem query returns this:

ATQ0V1E0 - OK
AT+GMM - BlackBerry IPmodem
AT+FCLASS=? - OK
AT#CLS=? - OK
AT+GCI? - OK
AT+GCI=? - OK
ATI1 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI2 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI3 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI4 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI5 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI6 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI7 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem

Before it would fail...

Now I have a shot in getting it to work...

Does RIM ever state what fixes or updates each software version has? I find it a bit unusual that they would list both software versions on the same page, yet fail to state what updates there are in the newer one. Perhaps someone should call them up and ask.

For a newbie, can you explain what the "modem query" is?

WOOT! After installing this new software, I can use my 7100g as a GPRS modem!!

IN FACT...I'm posting this right now using the BB as the modem! VERY NICE....

Low latency and decent speed...if only it was EDGE!

I'm the happiest BB user ever now!!

Let me know if you discover any other differences. I should have my 7100g tomorrow morning and since I don't even own a laptop, if that is the only difference I will probably not bother updating the software.

Still using my BB as a modem...

What's really funny is that even while you're using it as a modem (even doing heavy data downloads) the MESSAGES KEEP COMING THROUGH!!

LOL!!

I was startled when during loading Cnn.com I heard the alert for new message...the site kept loading too..

VERY COOL! My new wireless modem!

I'll let you all know if there's anything else. Going to go switch back to Wi-Fi now ;)

One fix that I noticed immediately is that under message services the Messaging (CMIME) now saves as Desktop (BES). Before I would have to manually change the from address to desktop when composing new emails - very useful fix IMO.

Also, the profile settings (ring tones, repeat notifications, etc.) seem to stick when changing themes whereas before I would lose the settings and have to redo them whenever I switched themes.

Still getting the error trying to use the calculator with the small blackberry icons though.

Will post if I notice anything else.

It should upgrade the Bluetooth stack see my prior posts on this subject and you will see that 4.0.0.274 was the last one certified by the bluetooth organization. (Actually 4.0.0.219)

Default Home Network Settings on this Firmware

It's interesting, just upgraded my 7100t to this firmware, and I noticed that under Network, it says that the home network is Cingular. I didn't think they were hard coding this into the firmwares, but I guess maybe it's possible? It doesn't seem to have any effect on my 7100t as I'm still connected to TMobile right now, etc.

Has anyone successfully loaded WebMessenger 2.3 on a 7100g after upgrading to 4.0.0.274?

This is the only program that didn't reinstall on my device after the upgrade and app loader gives me the 'No other applications found for your device' error when I try to point to it.

Does anyone have the latest version of Verichat installed and working after upgrading the software so I can switch if my email to WebMessenger support isn't returned?

Default TMobile continues it's proud tradition of being useless

Called TMobile to see if/when they were going to release this update. After sitting on hold for 28 minutes, I was informed that "TMobile just released the 4.0 software two weeks ago." What that had to do with my question, I do not know. She then went on to say that she had NO idea if there was any update in the pipe, nor was there anyone with any better information that I could talk to. They need to change their last question from "Is there anything ELSE I can help you with" to Is there anything I can do for you that involves pulling your battery out to reset the device". That seems to be the extent of their technical support. Way to go, level 2.
