Default Any Info on T-Mobile Transition to EDGE?

Please Login to Remove!

It is my understanding that EDGE provides faster data transmission than GPRS on a GSM network. Does anyone have any information about if and when T-Mobile will introduce and deploy EDGE in the U.S.? Thanks in advance.

From what I have read, they have decided not to bother. By the time they would roll out EDGE it would already be an old technology. Cingular has EDGE nation-wide and they are already rolling out UMTS. Apparently T-Mobile has decided that the future of their network will be in expanding their Hot-Spots Wi-Fi network. Then they will offer more devices like the Ipaq 6315 which will offer GPRS and Wi-Fi.

There was a really good thread on this in the HowardForums. There were a few people posting there that seemed to be "in the know" on this stuff.

T-Mobile USA doesn't plan to offer 3G UMTS data services for two years, a situation that will place the cell phone service provider behind its other rivals in the United States.

In the interim, T-Mobile plans to begin selling its EDGE data service, according to the Reuters news service, which covered the comments of the firm's CEO Robert Dotson and CFO Brian Kirkpatrick at a CSFB investor conference. T-Mobile, which is the fourth largest U.S. wireless provider, is a unit of Deutsche Telekom.

Default They are going to EDGE

I have a great relationship with T-Mobile and they will be rolling out EDGE this Summer. They bought extra spectrum just for EDGE so should really be high speed, not the 56k Cingular gets.
