Default Defective Thumb Wheel

Please Login to Remove!

My first 8700 had to be replaced due to a defective thumb wheel. The replacement unit is developing the same problem. The thumb wheel gets a bit loose and its behavior becomes a bit erratic.

Am I the only one or is this a common problem? Thanks.

It happened to my girlfriend's 8700c. I've taken the thing apart, but it looks like the piece that controls the wheel is soldered to the board.

I've got another board that's been water damaged and would love to swap the scroll wheel pieces, but can't figure out the best way to do it..anyone have any suggestions?

i suggest you call your wireless provider and not try and fix it because if its still under warranty and you mess it up you pay for a whole new one

My thumbwheel basically just got "stuck in place" and I had to have it replaced under warranty. I don't know how it did... I didn't drop it or anything. It was just stuck, and stuck hard!

The wheel is a little cup with the open side facing the screen. If you look carefully, dust and lint can accumulate inside. Try blowing it out, it made the wheel a lot stiffer on mine.

scroll wheel's have been notorious for messing up. Jsuen had a good idea when it comes to blowing out the dust. You can also use one of those can sprayers, just I would hold it back a few inches, those things have a mighty push of air.
