Default T-Mobile Store - Had Case for Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

I have seen alot of you looking for a nice case that is designed for the Pearl AND will put it to sleep when inserted.

I stopped in my local T-Mobile store this weekend and they just got this one in. Its a VERY nice case, magnet closer, thin, light, all leather and a nice belt clip - but here is the STUPID thing - you have to insert the Pearl UPSIDE DOWN for the magnet to touch the area on the Pearl to put it in sleep mode.

Dont ask me why - but that is how it works. I bought it anyway - but its a pain when the phone is ringing and you pull out your Pearl and its upside down...but it does fit the Pearl perfectly.

The SKU number is SUPA00550 and it cost $19.99

Thanks,

Mayor

The SDA case will work w/ the Berry too and holds it horizontally. If Rogers doesn't get their cases soon, I will drive to Buffalo and grab one.

I have that case, too and it sucks... bought one off of eBay that works just fine, and just ordered the sedio holster for the pearl.

If anyone wants the T-Mobile case for $5 plus $1.70 postage e-mail or PM me and I'll send it out.

Thanks for the offer, but no way...I like to stay away from the early 90's cell phone cases.

I bought and use the T-Mobile case. The upside down thing is not problem for me - you just have to change your grip when you pull it out. If you use the same grip you'd use when you pull out a phone that is right side up then it will be upside down when you get it out. If you switch the grip around then it will come out and your hand will flip it over as you lift it up and it will be right side up.

I haven't used the sideways SDA case, but I can't imagine how I would pull it out and have it end up right side up in my hand in one smooth motion when you have to grab it top and bottom or pinching one side of it.

What I don't like about the "Pearl case" is the fit. It has a nice soft liner, but the shape of my case is such that the liner doesn't contact the phone. The phone is held tightly towards the top of the case (the keyboard) and has its very top end nestled in a curve, but the case bows out and doesn't contact any other part of the phone between the top and the keyboard. Maybe that is to help with the trackball issue? I was hoping it would make contact so that the screen would get a wiping off when I slide it in and out. The official BB case lists a feature that does keep the screen clean, though.

I haven't noticed that the curve on the T-Mobile Pearl case helps much with avoiding the trackball when pulling it out. I still have to lock the phone every time I'm not using it (else pocket dial - which happened within 3 minutes of using the holster). When I use the phone with my bluetooth I like to keep it in the case. Now I have to remember to lock the keyboard after I'm done with the call.

Also putting the phone in upside down you can't charge it while in the holster. Kind of sucks. I blame RIM for spending 3 years on the phone and not 15 minutes on the holster.

So it's not my ideal case but I'll just get used to it until I find something else.

The case shown has nothing to do with RIM. I'm not even sure if T-Mobile is offering it as an official case for the Pearl, as it's designed for the SDA, I believe. RIM's cases will be out here shortly (were due out end of September but have been delayed).

Was this while using it upside down? When I put my pearl in the case upside down it goes into holster sleep mode and will not dial. You can look into the side of the holster and watch the phone go to sleep to verify that it goes and stays asleep. I've never had the pocket dial problem with the holster, but I have been using it in upside down mode since the 3rd time I put it in the holster while still in the T-Mobile store.

Others have claimed that they don't get a reliable sleep even upside down, but mine is very reliable - sleeps upside down every time and whether the screen is facing in or facing out. Perhaps look in through the side of your case while jiggling the holster and phone and see if it is waking up. If it is and the phone is upside down, get it exchanged for one that has a better magnetic catch.

Mine is strong enough that it can sometimes go to sleep even rightside up.

T-Mobile does have that case listed on the package as for the Blackberry 8100, but as others have said, its not that great! I did notice that the blackberrystuff.com website, has what they claim to be black OEM cases up for sale. Supposed to have the sleeper magnet function also.

I have this case and I will say the upside down thing is not true. My phone uses the in-holster profile without fail everytime. When you do it upside down you may be getting a response out of the magnet that is used for the clasp on the case but trust me. The magnet function of this case works just fine and the phone does not have to be upside down.

Anywho not too bad a case, does the job.
