Sure you can. Make your own ringtone for that person using AT&T Labs Text-to-Speech: Demo

Assign that ringtone for that person. Voila! Speaking Caller ID (although its only for known #'s that you make a ringtone for) But still cool none the less. You can also make your own MMS/SMS/E-Mail alerts using this too.

On the net you would find ready-made ringtones with names of people.

Yeah...thats an A2DP issue. I wish there was some way for us to do that...like the MDA guys have done (added the A2DP stack to their phones)

The same way you would change it for other alerts. Go into your profiles and select the alert you want to change. In your case it would be whatever messages you're speaking about in your post. Change the alert to whatever you want. If you want to use a text-to-speech like Red_Octane mentioned, you first have to create the alert and save it to your BB. Then just select it for your messages.

its the one thing i completely miss from my vx9800 (the LG vcast clam shell phone from verizon). that phone had text-to-speech built-in. without any programming at all, it would say the name and what catagorey they were in your adress book when you got a call. it was like your girlfriend telling you who is on the phone each time it rang. and if it was someone you dont know, it would just say the number who is calling. it could also read back email to you. i was pretty bummed out when i found that the pearl cannot do text-to-speech. making a ringtone for each name would be a pain...

Why not? If you have a BT headset, how do you hear you have an incoming call without hearing a ringtone in the headset?

Remember that a BT headset does not mean a STEREO BT headset which is not supported by the Pearl.
