Unhappy Unable to Synch with Mac

Please Login to Remove!

I'm sure that this topic has come up before but I'm new to Blackberry's and this forum so please cut me some slack here.

Apart from almost throwing my new Blackberry out of the car window on numerous occasions as it's the most complicated and fiddly ****ing phone I have ever owned, I am having serious problems synching it to my Mac.

Yes, I have pocket Mac for Blackberry and have just tried out the latest version of the software but it still will not have it!!!! It gets halfway through and then stops.

I have about 200 contacts I need to put into the damn thing as well as all the other stuff, it's why I bought a blackberry in the first place but I'm getting very frustrated by it!

Also it's started locking me out of my messages by throwing up a caps symbol in the top right hand corner of the panel. I cannot open a thing until it mysteriously dissapears again!!

HELP!!!!!! I'm seriously thinking of going back to my old steam driven Nokia, It can't receive e mails but jeeezz, it's a lot less hastle.

Is it a fault with the phone or am I just being a complete nincompoop and missing something here?

Steve

I don't use a Mac, however, I just did a search for '8100 sync mac' and this is what I got:

BlackBerry complicated? Didn't know the two went together... To be honest RTM and get familiar with the BlackBerry first. It's no fault of the BlackBerry the sync issues that is, PocketMac is beta at best and hit and miss I find. I myself gave up on the contacts as with 400+ I had similar issues to yours with PocketMac hanging up, I use it for calendar sync only as that's about as useful as I can get it. I have the option of a PC if you can go that route it will probably save you some time and hassle, if not confirm your PocketMac settings, version and most of all if your connected through a hub via USB go direct to the Mac for syncing.

Thumbs down

Crackberry,

Thanks for the steer, however after reading some of that info I feel even more like throwing the damn thing in the bin.

It's obviously a common problem that appears to be unresolved.

Nightmare !!!

Finch,

Tried connecting directly to the Mac but still same problem.

Are there any particular settings the blackberry should be configured to prior to synching?

gah don't talk about throwing the pearl like that! it's just hard to sync and just the software with the pocket mac.. maybe throwing the pearl around so much made it slow and stuff for you but it wasn't aproblem when i got my first bb, i read up on the forums and it took at most 2 hours to get used to it

i use PocketMac and sync my contacts my contacts about three times a week. I have just under 1,000 contacts. It is dog slow (12 minutes to sync) but it works.

I am hoping that MissingSync will come out with a blackberry version. That would probably solve mac users problems.

As for the pearl itself, i used to have a treo. That was worth throwing out the window of a speeding car. The pearl is much more stable.

Default Power

I had this same problem the first time I tried to synch to my Pearl last night while my laptop was on battery power. I disconnected, jacked into some wall power (because of a message about possible incorrect drivers and not charging correctly on the BB that I didn't see when I first started to sync), plugged back in, and all was good. Don't know if that helps, but...

PocketMac is not working with Perl. Let me re-phrase it : it works sometimes, I exchanged emails with it's support, but none of the suggestions worked. On rare occasion it does work - it's great, iCal, address book, all sync'ed up. I had no problems with 7100 for year I had it, I hope that soon 4.1 version of PocketMac for BlackBerry would come out and it would work as reliably as the 3x version did.

Default Pearl and Mac Sync

I've had no trouble syncing using pocket sync so far. I don't know if you're trying to sync from address book, but I keep all my contacts in entourage and have had no trouble getting them all to sync just fine. If you have entourage (while I know a lot of mac users can't ever bring themselves to use it) you might try exporting your contacts and importing them there, then sync. Could be a work around for the time being.

On a slightly different note, has anyone found a way to install new versions of the OS from a mac without running boot camp or parallels?

I was able to sync with PocketMac. I set it to overwrite the Pearl for contacts and Calendar just to be safe. The ony way I got it to work was to plug in the USB cable without the Pearl attached, start PocketMac on the MacBook Pro, turn on the Pearl (with phone off), press start on PocketMac, then plug in the Pearl.

PocketMac is a piece of junk compared to Missing Sync (which unfortunately doesn't support Blackberry) but it can be made to work.

Inspired, this is the first posting that isn't about opinions but contains real advice that actually seems to work. Thank you. Have a great weekend!

Default anyone see this type of error....

I had pocket mac syncing with out BB 7520's for about 2 months with very few problems... Sure it could take along time to sync, but it worked. And synced with Meetingmaker directly. Now when I try to sync I get a bunch of "Not owner exceptions" which results in no syncing at all. I figure the number of BB users on Mac's is low enough, but toss on MeetingMaker and the number gets slim. Any thoughts or Ideas are always welcom.... Hopefully they will get this figured out soon enough at RIM or PM....

good luck everyone and keep pluggin away.... I love how mac's are more stable then PC... but business is all over the PC... i guess it goes to show that business is unstable j/k
