I previously had this handheld (7100t) activated for another user. Everything was working ok, had a breakdown with the contacts that I found a fix for, but decide to set this up for another user at my company.

Wiped the handheld, added the user to the BES, went to activate and after about 4 tries quit. Completely reinstalled 4.0 SW and tried again, same thing. Removed the user, added the user again, completely reinstalled the sw again and tried to activate twice, no dice.

I can say that the each time I was trying to activate, I was using the BlackBerry Manager on the BES Server and it crashed (which happens quite a bit). I'm a little perplexed? Anyone see something like this?

We've had it happen a few times. Restarting the connector seems to help sometimes.

i've had this issue. here are the general steps in troubleshooting (for Exchange BES)...

- remove user from BES
- close Outlook on user's machine
- close Desktop Manager, if open, on user's machine
- use dbclean.exe on USER'S machine against profile
(*note: turn off cached mode if using Outlook 2003)
(*2nd note: it should say 'nothing to delete' or 'blackberryhandheldinfo' deleted or something like that)
- readd user to server
- generate new password (or just set an easy one, for ease)
- reopen Outlook (not really needed, i don't think, but why not)
- attempt to reactivate handheld
