I have not seen a way . . . one would assume that it is a security feature that RIM wanted to implement as to not allow manipulation of previous email correspondences for security purposes.

I think it's actually because usually the quoted email isn't actually sent from the device, it's quoted on the BIS/BES server.

You can see this when you try to quote an email that's been removed from the server. You'll get an error asking to resend so it can be quoted from the device.

Either way, I think you're out of luck.

Default There is a way...

I have gotten around this by:
  • Pressing forward (the email)
  • Cutting the content
  • Hitting reply
  • Pasting the content into the email
  • Editing it
Sounds complicated but it's quick.

THanks for this just a couple of clarifications:

Cutting the content means that you select the entire message using the NUM+Scroll wheel selection capability?

It's really the left shift key (NUM lock is an alternate function) but yes.
