What technology is the phone and the carriers in Vietnam, GSM? Do those carriers support the BB? Is the phone locked or unlocked?

I don't even think Vietnam has a network supports BB, but if you are talking about phone number, check if your phone has been locked on 3G. I did remember Vietnam has a CDMA network, but I think it should have GSM too.

Vietnam does indeed have GSM. I roamed on my T-Mobile SIM while there, and I also bought a prepaid Vinaphone sim card that I used in my unlocked T-Mobile phone. I believe Mobifone also had coverage where I was, but I didn't use it myself (I was in the city of Vung Tau, a coastal resort town about 2 hours from Ho Chi Minh City). I used text messaging while there as well.

I never tried using data services, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't support BB data roaming.

I was in Viet Nam a few months ago and sadly can report that they do not have data services. Just plain old gsm.

I's told that Vinaphone support data service. My colleague can easily roam with his 2G device but not my 8707v...

I was in Vietnam during Feb. And my 8700 Cingular BB Service works fine

I'm in Saigon now with a 8300 and I'm in the BB system, only GPRS, with Vinaphone. I did notice that I couldn't get on until I re-sent the service books. Also, it was slow the first day but then settled in and came up to speed.

Call Smartone and make sure they have provisioned data roaming for you. Are you getting lower case or capital grps on your 8707v?
