My apologies in advance if I’m posting this to the wrong forum. I have a Blackberry 8700 on the Cingular Network in the US. I would like to use my Blackberry for Internet access for my laptop from time to time. I heard it has this capability, but can’t seem to figure out how to do it.
Any suggestions?

I believe that there is a thread in the 8700 section about this very topic. try searching "tethering" with 8700 in the search bar

One other thing to be aware of is that this could easilly burn though your allowed bandwidth Even if you have an "Unlimited" data plan there are in fact limits. And they are getting really strict about this. Verizon just cut theirs from 10GB per month to 5GB. When you go over they generally just cancel your account. No warning just termination.

Hi read through the thread today, and did get my laptop communicating with my 8700. Called Cingular to upgrade to the “Tethered modem” service. It rejects my connection, Error 73 I think.

I was on the phone with Cingular level 3 technical support for about 2 hours today, they could not get it working. Somebody is suppose to call me in the morning.

Yup Sprint definitely has the fastest data network and they don't care how much bandwidth you use :D

Probably because they don't have as many customers as the other members of the Big 4 and are trying to get more.

They have to turn on the service, as I understand it.

I think it has to do with the amount of data and the bandwidth you are using. Probably the IP as well.

I would not be to sure of that. Verizon and Cingular will tell you that too. Unless you have read the entire usage agreement, and all the agreements it references I would bet that Spring also has usage caps.
