Default Which is the best OS for T-Mobile Pearls ?

Please Login to Remove!

i've been reading the posts and people's expereinces on upgrading to TIM italy and the latest Rogers OS....

which one do you think is less buggy ? would it be best to remove all 3rd party apps before doing an upgrade (and do a fresh install of the apps once the new OS is loaded) ?

i've read lots of people's posts regarding both, b4 i take the plunge, looking for a comparison....

thanks.

Definitely the .94 version is less buggy.

The best OS for the T-Mobile Pearls is the OS that T-Mobile recommends you have for a given model.

I am on TMobile and had that version for a few days before I updated to Cingular (v4.2.0.88 / 4.2.0.71). I had NO problems with that one. TIM was the worst and Rogers is too new for me to tell, although so far I am only having freezing issues with video.

Not always true....

I found the best (most stable/fewest bugs) OS for the Pearl was the 4.2.0.71 from Cingular. Which carrier releases it has little to do with anything. I've been using the .94 4.2.1 release for over a month and it's more stable than the .66 but less stable than the 0.71. However, the extra features in the 4.2.1.94 make it worth the few little bugs here and there.

Default All work well for me!

Just upgraded to Roger's 2.3.0.77 and it seems to work fine for me and seems somewhat faster than the Italian version.

TIM is working great for me. I might do an upgrade in a month or so to a newer OS. I never had any issues once I upgraded from .42 to .71. That OS was just crappy.

I just don't understand why people are so excited to upgrade to a new OS version, when their phones are working just fine. I also strongly disagree with you about the carrier having little to do with the OS release. Every carrier has a test and eval process they use before they release a BB OS version into the wild. If a carrier releases a particular OS version, and I find a newer version on a competitor's website, and it causes problems, the carrier will laugh in my face (justifiably) if I complain about it after the fact. If they release a POS OS, and it causes them the call volume, they will, in fact, work on a new version to reduce the cost of answering thousands of calls from irritated folks. It is simple business sense, and in a carrier's best interest, to maintain what they consider a stable OS for their devices. Just ask the many people who have tried to upgrade their OS to one not officially supported by a carrier, only to have headaches and switch back, and you'll see what I mean.

John,

could you point me to the instructions on how to wipe the device and reinstall all the apps using DM ?

i am not sure what's causing my problems, but i get intermittent hanging in DM when using app loader/backup.

last night i uninstalled/reinstalled DM, 4.2.0.64 and the new app i bought (Ascendo datavault), but the problem still exists.

Will upgrading to another vendors OS cause me to lose the MyFaves functionality of my T-Mobile Pearl?

No it will not, as long as you upgrade correctly, I use My Faves, and the only time I had a T-Mo OS on my phone was the first month or so, then the Cingular OS came out and I upgraded, Then the TIM OS came out and I upgraded, was too buggy for my liking so I went back to Cingular, and now I am having no problems with Rogers. And throughout this whole process never lost my faves, but it does reset your My Faves so even though the numbers aren't deleted the ringtones and pictures are set to a default which is just annoying to change back but not a big deal.

Just because you had a good run ofit, doesn't mean there aren't many who haven't. I see the posts all the time. Bottom line in my mind is if you want to upgrade, there should be a good reason other than "having the latest"...there should either be many problems with your current set up, that the new version might fix, or you need a critical feature not offered in your current set up.

Well i upgraded to TIM for the ability to seperate the sms/email folders....gets aggravating to have 3 pop emails and a sms all in one folder. i needed each to be in their own place.
just upgraded to the newest rogers and so far so good, not 1 issue

I upgraded to the Italian release about a month ago and am having no problems at all. in fact it restored my auto dim feature that was taken away with the T-Mo "upgrade" it is all about what you are willing to put up with - features, bugs, the worry of not using "recommended" software. I don't believe I've heard of any one getting laughed at by customer support by having a newer release OS. but then again, my memory isn't what it used to be.
