Default New member with new BB 8800!!

Please Login to Remove!

I just joined the forum after buying my first BlackBerry, over the weekend. I got the 8800 from Amazon of all places. I was looking for a new phone as my latest 2-year contract was up for renewal. I hadn't planned on a BB, but after stumbling upon an amazing price from Amazon I couldn't resist.

I paid only $94 which included the 8800, 2-year Cingular voice & data plan, free activation and free 2-day shipping. When I receive my 8800, I can go online at Amazon and get a $50 rebate, so my grand total will be just $44 bucks!!! That's insane!! If anyone is in the market for a BB or any cell phone, give Amazon a look.

I'll post some comments & pics when my BB is delivered, tomorrow.

The downside is you have to keep the phone and the plan as is now for something like 6 months or they charge you $250, I think it is.

Cingular charges $300 for the 8800, so the Amazon price is unbelievable. I upgrade about once a year, so if/when I move on from the 8800, I can score a nice profit on eBay.

Well, my new 8800 just arrived... but there was no SIM card. I'm in contact with Amazon to find out what's going on here.

A few first impressions:
  • Nice, compact unit.
  • Beautiful, clear screen.
  • I love the trackball. Many prefer the side scrolling wheel, but the trackball is perfect for me.
  • Build quality seems a bit lacking. I expected a much better "feel" than this cheap plastic. This is quite disappointing to me.

I can't do much else until I get this missing SIM card resolved. I'll post more comments at that time.

Probably should have gone into a Cingular store to check it out first.

Maybe so... I probably would be more disappointed in the "plasticky" feel had I paid $300+ for the device.

I've been playing with it for awhile and am impressed with the functionality. Amazon is shipping the SIM card via Next Day Air at no charge. I'm gonna see how the phone & bluetooth perform (i.e., clarity, pairing, etc.) If I like the sound, I'll keep it.
