Default Fastest way to tsfr songs to Pearl - Roxio Media Mgr or Mass Storage mode?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, which way would be fastest? I don't have the new Roxio Media Manager yet that comes with the desktop software 4.2 SP 2, and am trying to decide if it's worth downloading the extra 200 MB it takes (since I'm short on HD space). The current Media Manager is quite slow to transfer songs, and I'd read it's fastest to use the Mass Storage mode to transfer stuff.

And what about the media manager that comes with 4.2 SP 1? How does that compare to Mass Storage transferring speeds?

THX!

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I personally think it is faster to drag and drop using mass storage mode.

In my experience, Mass Storage Mode is faster than Media Manager.

At one time I downloaded and installed 4.2 SP2 and while I liked the Roxio interface a little, I found I couldn't access the Media Card with it - only the phone memory. This is likely due to not having exactly the right phone software and I uninstalled 4.2 SP2 and went back to 4.2 SP1 which works.

But after I discovered Mass Storage Mode I always use it rather than Media Manager.

I just moved to SP2 and upgraded OS to .94. on my Pearl. I also do not seem to be able to access the media card. I have pictures I need to download for work on this thing. I have a 2GB memory card loaded with pictures, video and music--Do I need to rollback desktop manager in order to access that stuff!?

I think i found that if the mass storage mode's on, i can't access it while it's plugged in with the sync wire.

Yeah me too. The computer is accessing the drive I suppose and the phone no longer has control of it.

I don't get that problem after I upgrade, but what you could try is to back up your media and then format the card via the phone. It's worth a try.

Is it giving you an error about not being able to open the file? I came across that when I upgraded my software a while back. All I did was resend my service books, and POOF! It worked again. You can try that.. It took me two instore exchanges til I figured it out! Try that if that's the issue.

Let me clarify myself. I just double checked. With mass storage on, when I plug in the device, I can access the files on the media card just fine with 4.2 SP2 desktop software. I'm running the latest 4.2 OS.

However, if i grab the phone itself while it's plugged in, and go to the Media icon, I won't see the Media Card folder appear. You can test this by going to your Music folder and when plugged in, you'll see Preloaded Music and Device Memory folders. As soon as you unplug the wire, voila! The Media Card folder also appears.

It is normal while in mass storage mode to not be able to read the card on the device when it's plugged in to the computer.
