Anyone like the new iphone and will you get rid of you 8300 for one?

The iPhone is cool...and looks like it will be fun. But, it just do anything for me personally...although I am sure it will sell like hotcakes to every kid with $500 to burn.

No...not my cup of tea, as I have had plenty of whiz-bang "cool" phones in my time. I have settled down, and have a very solid idea of what I want in a communication/data device. The BlackBerry serves my needs well...and is pretty darn "fun" as well!!

I think I just might do it, I would have hoped that by now I would have learned my lesson and gotten to grips with the fact that the first generation of every single thing I have owned sucked in some way...but I am willing to take my chances with the iPhone. It does look too good to be true...but let's hope it works as advertised.

No voice-dialing, no push email (or interface with MS Exchange) and no 3G (albeit the 8300 doesn't have 3G) makes it a fancy toy. Nice looking but a step backwards for a convergence device, for sure.

As a consumer phone it will be fine, with push Yahoo mail (and I imagine google will provide push to it soon).

I didn't know people actually use voice dialing, I've always found it to be cumbersome.

And lastly, 3G is one hell of a battery drain... I bet thats why you don't see it in BlackBerrys. The iPhone does have WiFi after-all, which is the only viable option if you want mobile VOIP.

The only weak-spot I see is the text input. I own an N800 and I get frustrated when I have to input a large amount of text on its touch screen.

Edit:

Oh yea, I'm keeping my Curve until Apple releases some software updates and adds iChat to the iPhone =p

I honestly don't see how anyone could compare the two. The Blackberry is a streamlined productivity device. The iPhone is an over-priced, gimmick-laden toy.

Like Miami Berry, I will give the iphone a whirl! The 8300 has been a little bit of a let down for me, just way to many moving parts for a device that runs for $449 retail. The iphone looks to have the makings of a consumer device champion! But that will only hold up if it is put together like it should be, and if it performs like Steve Jobs says it will! As for RIM, attention needs to be payed towards how they build there devices and what materials are used to build them! Because as of late, I am not impressed at all!!!

the only touchscreen I like is my nintendo DS other than that.. 8300 all the way.

Spend the upcoming weekend reading what probably will be thousands of reviews on the iPhone -- then make the decision.

Until it actually ships nobody can tell how well the iPhone will work.

Having been a Windows Mobile user for years -- and having used Microsoft Voice Command which is close to flawless -- I wouldn't own a phone without it. Though VoiceSignal isn't quite the equal of the MS product, it's getting better and I have close to 100% recognition. Combined with a BT headset, I wouldn't want to get into my car and have to start fiddling with a snazzy touchscreen interface.

For me, a simple "Call Paris Hilton" gets me connected to the jailhouse PDQ without a lot of fussing.

endgadget had a review of it today and said you cant type with your thumbs you have to use index fingers or one of the other 8 becuase when you use your thumbs it registers other info. SO a pro BBer is up the creek

I'm going to use my VZW 8830 for all my day to day business related stuff, and the iphone will take hold of my personal at&t line. Hey if the iphone turns out to be as good as Apple has pegged it, Great! If not, I may give the 8300 another try. By then any issues with the phone should be corrected by RIM. Worst case scenario is I'll give up altogether on at&t branded devices and roll with my Nokia N95!

something else I read on another forum is that you cant get insurance on it. It looks like its gonna be a magnet for being dropped and if I cant get insurance I surely aint buying it.

Agreed! I just purchased a Curve on Amazon for $45. I think the iphone has been over hyped by Apple (as was the PS3) and a lot of people will be disappointed on Friday. Don't get me wrong, I love my Mac and iPod, but it took a few generations with each device, to perfect technology (and lower the price) for me to buy these devices. The iPhone is still too wet behind the ears for me to throw $500 to buy one.

Blackberry has had several generations of smart-phones to perfect the technology. So the question is $45 for the pro of smart phones or $500 for the rookie? I'll wait for the 3rd or 4th generation of the iPhone before I buy it.

AT&T & Lockline have had a longstanding refusal to insure "data-phones" and "music-phones" alike. And, it doesn't look like that stance will change anytime soon...for any reason, even the Apple iPhone.
