So I decided to give the service another try over the long holiday weekend and considering that I didn't want to end up lost in a new city I was going to vacation at..

Way too slow! This is my biggest complaint. It takes way too long to "catch up" with you when you are driving and most of the time it directs you AFTER you have missed your next turn. At one point I was going straight for about 20 miles and out of nowhere it decides to reroute my course in the middle of nowhere! At this point I just closed the program, it was such garbage.

I don't see how people can recommend this craptastic piece of software.

It works great on my Pearl (aside from the RIM Bluetooth stack issue-not TeleNav's fault)....I suggest when you're running it, especially on older devices, that you close out all other programs. It will run much faster. Also, try a reboot of the device and try it again. If you have a lot of free memory taken up by pictures, wallpapers, ringtones, etc. you will have trouble with TeleNav, as well. I needs plenty of free memory.

I used it on my old 7520, and had it work like that 50% of the time, then it would work great the other 50%. Since going to the 8830, I use the GPS feature it has, which is free for me, and it is awesome. The only downfall to it is that it does not have voice directions on it. So you have to be careful while driving and then looking at your BB. But if you have a window or dash cradle for it, that would make it easier. As for the Telenav, I thought it was a great tool till seeing what else is out there. My opinion, not worth the $10 or so it costs, when I get a better app for free. That's just my 2 cents though.

The "GPS feature" you refer to is BBMaps. It's just another app that works with the GPS in your phone. Google Maps will work with the GPS as does TeleNav.

TeleNav works much better on the newer devices. If you're comparing TeleNav to a nice Garmin you're comparing apples and oranges. IMO, TeleNav does a nice job for a GPS, voice prompted, turn by turn mapping direction application on a phone.

When I had an 8800 it worked flawlessly and my gf (who is often annoyed at my gadgets) was impressed with how fast it caught up to us ignoring some of its choices.

I would kill to have this functionality on my iPhone right now.

I gotta take up for TeleNav, I just used it across southern California through the streets of LA and beyond and have been totally impressed with it's accuracy and ability to catch up to me. I've used it in other locales, as well my home area in Bama. Great product. Likewise, I have had good luck with Google Maps and BB Maps, but TeleNav is a at a while different level than those two.

For one thing, I don't have these problems. But I am on an 8800. I've used it in and around Houston, New Orleans, the (SF) Bay Area and even downtown San Francisco among the skyscrapers.

Add me to the list of TeleNav supporters. This is an excellent product, and works very well within our organization.
We have a full fleet of salespeople with 8800s and 8100s scattered across the US. TeleNav works beautifully for everyone, and I looked like a hero when we enabled it for everyone

I'm betting not even Garmin will satisfy this particular individual... Telenav is a main staple on my BlackBerry 8800 and 8300 devices.

I've used it all over the U.S. and I can honestly say that it works pretty much flawlessly.

On my 8300, it has frozen once or twice, but I aint complaining at all. For what it is, it is one of the best applications available.

I'm using Telenav in Canada on the Rogers Wireless network with my 8300 and have nothing but positive things to say about it.

It's worked great for me so far. I don't like the $10/month subscription fee but it's worth it and is on a different level than google maps or blackberry maps with voice navigation and text-to-speech for the street names.

I also use Rogers, and am curious if that $10/month covers just the Telenav part or ALSO covers the data that goes along with it to/from Telenav's servers. Knowing Rogers, I'd be willing to bet that it only covers the Telenav service, and then they eat up the measily data plan that Rogers offers. Rant coming soon on that front too...

The Telenav subscription includes only the license to use their service, not the cost of data, etc.
