Unhappy 7290 with NO memo or task manager?

Please Login to Remove!

I squished my 7290, and a friend gave me her "old" blackberry--another 7290. The only prob is that is has NO task manager, and NO memo pad. I upgraded the OS to 4.10.292, thinking that may be the issue, but still no deal.

I think it's odd that my other one had these features that I used CONSTANTLY because it synced with MS Outlook--and this other one doesn't have them at all.

I've looked for add-on applications, but can't find anything that will sync with outlook.

HELP!!! Need help from you berry-techies!

It likely just needs the apps installed. You'll need to install the Desktop Manager and the OS package to the pc and then run application loader and check the boxes for memo pad and tasks.

Default Already tried Desktop Manager

I am in a similar situation to the original poster. I have a 7290 that i got used with neither memos, nor task mgmt, nor a browser. I ran Application Loader in Device Manager (a program that I originally installed for my prev Blackberry a Pearl). But App Loader says that it has "no applications for the device that is currently connected". Incidentally, i have no problem syncing everything else to my 7290 so I don't think its got a problem with not recognizing the device

you need to download and install the device OS to your PC before you can install those things via apploader

Sorry i am not sure what you mean by that. Are you talking about something other than the Blackberry Desktop Manager? If so, where do I get it?

Default Already tried that

All that does is make sure your OS is up to date. I checked and all the version numbers match what I already have

You still need this download. Memos and Tasks are optional components, and one checkbox of many you can select to load onto the device. The previous owner did not have these checked when they loaded the OS upgrade. Download the file, run the apploader, check those boxes for the missing items, and 3 minutes later you will have those things.

Follow moleman2ks instructions to the letter - do not skip any steps - and you will find that the boxes are NOT checked for tasks and notes.

Download the OS
Execute the file
** locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your PC C: drive **
Restart Desktop Manager
Scroll down the applications list and check off items that need to be installed

ashiq88 - see my post directly above yours.
Follow the instructions TO THE LETTER.
You must download the correct Handheld OS for your BB and then follow the instructions.

It's mentioned here on the forums about 20,000 times. Glad you got it going!

oops, just one thing missing.. the browser didn't make it in even though i distinctly remember ticking that checkbox. As a comparison, on the Pearl (also with Cingular) I had two browsers - the standard one, and another crippled one called the Media Browser. But currently i have neither

That's probably the case. But as always the problem is knowing where to look. did a quick search for "task manager" and the only hit that seemed relevant was this posting that i replied to. Fortunately, help was very quick

cheers

Do you have a DATA PLAN?
If you do, does your carrier have the PIN for the 7290?

If yes, you may just need to pull the battery or send yourself the service books again. Once you have the service books, the internet browser will appear.

OK, i checked with AT&T and this is the summary of the answer I got: in order to get internet access on a *blackberry* you need to get their $30/mo data plan OR sign up for the pay-per-use (10c per 1KB i think). They have a cheaper $5/mo plan (I used to be on) but it isn't available for Blackberries. When I asked them why my cheaper plan used to work on my Blackberry Pearl, they said it was an "oversight" and I just "got lucky". So it looks like I have to either get another non-BB phone or sign up for their pay-per-use since i don't want to pay $30 for the internet plan
