Default 8830 battery life s#*ks

Please Login to Remove!

The battery life on my 8830 is absoultely terrible. I leave the house in the morning 7 am after a full overnight charge (status shows 100% charge).
By noon I'm down to 5-15% this just started happening about a week ago. The 8830 is only 2 months old.
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions. This is my first BB and up to this point I've been less than impressed.
btw, all thhis occurs with very little use.

Thanks

You likely have your battery on a very short life cycle if you have been letting it 5-15% for many days in a row.

You absolutely must let this battery get a little charge during the day. Topping it off is recommended.

8830 for 3 weeks now. Have had 857, 957, 6510, 7510, 7520, 7290, 8700,Pearl, 8300 and now 8830. Unequivocally, 8830 has best standard battery life. I have gone 36 hours and was down only to 45%. I charge it every chance I get for the first 2 weeks. I can go a full 48 without a charge with light phone (5 to 6 calls) and very heavy email (40 to 55 a day) and light internet (20 minutes on sites) daily. Something is wrong with you battery.

^^I agree. Something must be wrong with the battery. It definitely shouldn't be down to 15% or 5% after only 5 hours or so. It is either that or something else like the wireless radio searching for a signal constantly.

Are you running any instant messaging software? Some instant messaging software are not CDMA-friendly; they eat lots of battery life. Select "Switch Application" to view all the running apps, and if any of those are network applications running in the background, quit them and see if this helps.

Also, if you haven't tried, remove the battery and reinsert. Sometimes that helps - it resets the application memory (no, it doesn't delete any of your data, email, addressbook or installed software).

Also, if you have enabled GPS, disable it and re-enable only when needed. It can eat battery while not in use.

If this fails, batteries have known to become defective -- try getting a replacment. Explain that the battery life was good and then suddenly became bad even though you aren't using it much.

Agree with this. My 8800 had the best battery I had ever had with a smartphone. It was not a problem to be a heavy email user, have Jive Talk and Viigo running in the background and get 2-3 days. NEVER less than 2 unless I just went wacko mad with phone calls.

Buy a CDMA device, sacrifice your battery.

Pure and simple.

My 8800 battery life is awesome. with my 8700 (which I only had for 6 months) I charged at least every other day, sometimes every day. I only charge my 8800 every 3 or 4 days. Of course, it is a GSM phone...

Thanks for all the help. The problem? Mark hit the nail on the head. I found to many things running in the background. As I mentioned above this is my first BB so I'm still learning the in and outs of it.
And the FAQ link was great also.

Thanks again

Interesting; I find the same thing happening on my relatively new 8830.
Battery life was terrific until a few days back when it suddenly dropped to 10% or less within a few hours of full charge; usage follows the same patterns, not doing anything different.

If you haven't done so, take the time to read the link above, as well as to watch your running in the background programs.

Another thing to look at is your backlight timer. The longer and brighter the backlight is set, the faster your battery will drain.

I also have the 8830 and I improved my battery after dropping the backlight timer from 60 seconds to 20 seconds and set the automatic backlight to 'on'.

JSanders & juwaack68 - I done read the entire thread before posting.
All settings are at their initially changed frugal battery life values including backlight, apps, non global radio mode within CONUS etc. etc. - that's what I meant by " usage follows the same patterns" ie nothing's been changed as far as usage/settings.
I reckon I'll conclude a battery that went bad 3 months from new.

hmm, okay then.

Normally a user will discover some odd program(s) running or low signal issues which can cause abnormal battery drain, but your experience may be different.

Sure sounds that way. And please forgive us for offering up what may seem obvious to you, since sometimes it isn't obvious to others.

"Usage follows same patterns" to some may mean totally different usage to another person.

Hopefully your next battery will play nicer and last longer.

Are you checking to make sure you dont have apps running in the background? Alt + esc? Be glad you don't have an Iphone...it's cost you $$$$ and you have to mail you phone in for repair!! Ha!

I would ask if you read the link above, but the last time I asked that in this thread I regretted it. But I still advise it. Post #2, and pay particular attention to applications running in the background of your BB, see post #5.
