I purchased a BB 7290 on ebay and sent it to a relative overseas. Accidentally we forgot the password that we put in for unlocking the device and he tried various combinations 10 times and it now has frozen with just the hour glass showing. He has removed the battery but still nothing happens and all we get is the hourglass.

Whats the best way to get out of this and create a new password? Is there any way to do a hard reset on a BB?

You will need to reinstall the BB software. There is a sticky at the top of the RIM S/W Forum telling Where to get the latest cersion for each provider and how to do it.

thanks..you mean reinstall the desktop manager and sync it with the BB 7290? or some other software? isnt there a hard reset on the device itself

by handheld OS do you mean the device manager or the desktop manager or both?

He means the Blackberry OS .. not desktop manager, or device manager.
