Default BES Software

Please Login to Remove!

I have been running a BES with about 20 users for sometime now. We don't run any 3rd party software but I would like to find out what you all use so that I can extract some more value from our BES and BlackBerrys. I am running BES 4.0 with an intent to upgrade to 4.1 soon. Also, the BES is on a Windows 2003 server and we run Exchange 2003.

Thanks in advance!

Wirelessly posted (Nextel 7520: BlackBerry7520/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

What are you looking to get? What field do you work in? What are your needs?

At this point, I am not sure. I am in local government, county level. We don't have any needs at this point that have been identified but maybe there is software that could identify and meet an unmet need?

Kinda of a weird question. Like going to a mechanic and saying "I don't know I want my car to do, but if you have something that will make it run better then tell me about it..."

There's about a gozillion applications out there that could or could not help you. But without knowing the scope of what you want to accomplish it would be nearly impossible to start throwing out names until you see one you might be interested in. Best try the aftermarket and 3rd party forum or the sponsor links and see if anything from there strikes your eye.

Good point. Maybe there is no need for any application right now. I believe it's better to start with a business problem or need and then look for technical solutions, if necessary. Thanks again for your input.

Try browsing Handango. You might see something that catches your eye. And then, you might want to post here to find out peoples opinion on the software your looking at. Someone might also mention that there is a free alternative.

Post Stuff we use

Some of our users wanted Bluetooth keyboards and had the money to buy them so rather than have to "hand" load each one, we used the utilities in the BES to rollout the application as a software configuration. Now all they have to do is tell us they're ordering one with a keyboard and we roll out the software once its activated. Saves us a lot of time..

Another one we've been looking at (Pending licensing investigation) is a little utility called "BBLIGHT". We have tons of 7520 and 7250 users who have long complained about the light not coming on when they unholster their BB's. It may seem trivial but it it makes our customers happy we're going to try and do it.

Sejinro, If you are on 4.0 and looking to go 4.1 and you have discussed what you are looking to intergrate with in your organisation, you should investigate whats closer to home with regards to Blackberry/RIM, MDS Studio with some custom Web Services should do the trick.
