Not Getting Attachments...at all
Please Login to Remove!
I searched for awhile, but I must be bad at it.
Here's my issue: On my 8830 (Verizon), I cannot receive attachments apparently. I spent about an hour on the phone with Verizon "support" and it was a monumental waste of time.
I know HOW to open an attachment, although I've never received one on my BB. I know this because the "support" people at Verizon made me go through the steps about 140 times to make sure that I wasn't retarded.
My email icon will not show a paperclip or anything, but when I open up the email message, it was say [1 attachment]. However, there's no attachment there.
Some other information: I'm using BIS, and there is NO REDIRECT software anywhere on my computer or on my phone. I don't know why that's important, but I know that it IS important, and 8 people have confirmed that it's not a redirect issue.
Any other ideas?

Under Options / Advanced Options / Applications, do you have Blackberry Attachment Service in the list?

No I do not. And thanks to your post, I found this.

Make sure the Blackberry Attachment Service is installed. You can look in Options >Advanced Options >Applications and it should be listed there. If it's not then use the Desktop Manager and the OS installation package to load it to the device. If it is there, try rebooting the device and see if it works after that.
|
So now I have a new question, lol. How do I do that? When I run the Desktop manager and click on "Application Loader," it lists 3 apps that I put on the phone (google maps, and 2 themes) and under "Other required applications and libraries" it's just grayed out and says 0KB. So where is it and how do I do it?
I'm sorry for sounding like such an idiot here...I'm really not...I'm just new to the phone and to blackberries in general. I'm a Treo convert.

Easiest way is to just upgrade if you aren't on the latest version.

You need to have the Verizon BB OS installed on your BB, then you should be able to add the Attachment Service.

As an aside, after installing the OS (using the backup feature), I found that while I could successfully view attachments, I could NOT successfully sync my phone. The calendar database was apparently corrupted along the line somewhere. At any rate, a quick google of the error message brought me right back to this forum. Problem solved.
These forums really are a valuable asset to BB. I could have probably spent 2 hours on the phone with some support guy somewhere ending with both of us being frustrated. I'm sure I won't be here much when I quit breaking my phone, but to the regulars...THANK YOU.
Keep saving us.

Still no attachments
I am using an 8830 on Verizon and would like to view attachments in my calendar. My company uses hosted Exchange and hosted BES (I'm the only Blackberry user). My problem is, I have the Blackberry Attachment Service listed under my applications, and despite my best efforts, I still only get the filename of attachments attached to calendar entries. They look like this
<< filename1.ext >>, <filename2.ext >>.
Any ideas where to check? I've thought of the following but have no clue;
Setting on the hosted BES server
Setting on the hosted Exchange server
Setting on my 8830
Settings in my Outlook local on my PC.
Thanks for your help in advance.
John
