Default Freeing up some memory by removing unused themes...

Please Login to Remove!

as the title states, I was hit by the infamous deleted call logs, messages and such...

I have 3 3rd party apps installed, and still noticed my memory getting lower and lower...

so I edited the alx file to remove ALL unused themes, and I only have the one theme i use in there... now i have yet to see my memory get below 23MB when before i would get down to around 13MB... just some info for those worried about memory loss issues...

This is a great idea and there are a few threads on this point. See my post here (for the pearl): http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post398874. Although the method will work for any OS. People should be careful, however. For, example, for OS 4.2, the Dimension Today and Dimension Icon themes need the Zen theme to be installed to work properly. I think for older OS's the Dimension Icon theme needs to be installed for Zen and Today to work.

Someone actually wrote a script that automates the process of cleaning up the OS before an update: See this thread: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ess-files.html

I just used that process on my 8310 last night, and it worked great! Thanks for posting it. I just used that script (modified the 8100 to 8310 in the programming) on my 8310, and there are some files that I had manually removed that have slightly different names. So they were re-loaded. No biggie, I just went in and took them back out.

The biggest help the script gave was rooting out all of the language support that I didn't need that I missed picking them out manually. I did come across three files that end with _resource__ja.cod that were left after the script, and I didn't see listed. Are these more foreign language support files that I can remove?

Thanks again! I have well over 1/2 of my total memory available now.
