Default All Blackberry's aren't built the same.

Well, my 8100 had an 'incident' today and is still alive and working.

I was up on 7 tiers (35 feet) of scaffolding and while reaching for something I caught a glimps of something falling to the ground, My Blackberry! So I immediately thought that I would need to go and get a new phone but when I got down and looked at it, it still worked. My bosses 8100 fell 2 feet onto a pine (softwood) floor and died, a friend's 8800 fell out of his lap while exiting his car (1 1/2 feet) and fell on concrete and died. Mine falls 35 feet onto compacted gravel (driveway) and lives. I don't get it, but am thankful I don't have to buy a new one.

Is it possible that they are just built differently ?

Also, Where is the best place to buy a complete housing ? and can you get all the parts ? (case, side rails, screen cover, etc..)

Just luck of the draw and how it hits The gravel may have just enough give to cushion the fall.

I think RIM should make a Blackberry that can handle the abuse of the "trades" or manufacturing... Kinda like the old 7 series Nextels that you could throw off the wall and would work perfect.

I love the trackball, but would rather have the scroll wheel like the 88XX, But I need the camera found on the 81XX and 83XX's

Hi:

You must be talking about an older 88XX because I have an 8830 and it does have a trackball...

I had a old Moto i530 and that thing fell off a 8 story building onto concrete and worked just fine for 3 more years.

The gravel it fell onto had no give, it's stone dust (crushed limestone) and was plate tampered the day before.

Does the 7290 use a sim card? Have Email, Text, and Internet? If so that maight be a bad idea to use at work and then just swap cards.

Normally work and BB's are not a problem but, when you add a saftey harness (which cuts off access to pockets) that's where the problem comes up.

It does clip to the harness but (as I found out) does not stay attached to well.

The 72xx series uses a trackwheel and the screen is noting to jump up and down over compared to the screens on the newer devices...

The 72xx series are built like a darn tank and function just the same for email, phone, sms...
