Default So how old is Satellite view in Google Local?

Please Login to Remove!

I have got conflicting statements, does anyone know how old the satellite view is of google maps? I hear 1 1/2 years, some people say 5 years. A blackberry Rep told me a month, but my street were covered in snow the last 1-2 months. What is the truth?

It all depends on where you are. There is no single answer for every location. I know the images near me are at least 2 years old. Google Local shows an empty field where WalMart has been for some time now.

I'd say that the average is about 3-5 years at least. Where I live its just a big blurry spot on the map anyway. I don't know why cause about 100m down the street its a clear satellite pic but where my house is its just blurry as hell.

The BlackBerry rep has no better answer than anyone else. There's no reason he would have the correct answer because Google Local for Mobile is based on Google Earth, which has nothing to do with BlackBerry. He just couldn't bring himself to say, "I don't know."

The images are less than a year and a half old for my location. We've only lived in our house for two years this month and our next door neighbors moved in 6 months after we did. Their SUV is pictured in their driveway.

For me the pictures are about 3 years old. The problem is the maps are almost that old as well. I live in a pretty new area, but they have added streets 2 years ago that don't show on the maps view yet

Everyone will answer differently, as your post suggested. Satellite pics from most sources will vary in age, because they are taken like individual snapshots and then pieced together, it is a slow process, and they get updated over time. I've read that some pics are blurred intentionally for reasons including national security.

Google Local website stated that the websites, like everyones opinion, is updated every 2-5 years. They are taken via satelite or plane and pieced together. The reason for some areas being blurry is becuase detailed photos were not taken of that area yet. My house is blurry as well.
