With out question the bell firmware did not improve the EVDO problem. I installed it a few hours ago and I am still having the same issues as before.

I installed Bell's version on my VZW 7130e about six hours ago. So far I've been stuck on 1XEV since then. Before the update it would go to 1X and stay there. So far, so good.
I can not even log on to the software update page for VZW. It tells me my number is not valid. I'm not a new customer. I'll have to call and see if they can fix that.

For anyone considering installing either the Bell or Telus OS to resolve the bluetooth reboot, I have two words: do it. The installation, following the instructions posted at howardforums.com, for example, went very smoothly and the phone worked exactly as a bluetooth phone should work immediately after the installation was complete. Sitting in my den, about twenty feet from my car (parked in the garage), the phone immediately located the car kit and asked if I wanted to pair the two devices. Every time I get into the car, the car kit emits a beep within thirty seconds indicating that the phone has connected with the car kit...no more having the manually connect the phone to the car kit and no more holding my breath hoping that the phone doesn't crash while or as a result of it connecting to the car kit. As an aside, the experience only reinforces everything I've come to know and expect about Verizonwireless over the past several years: that they put more emphasis on bringing products out than on the needs and concerns of its customers. VZW's work on its OS, by comparison to the Bell OS just seems sloppy. Beyond its failure to get the problems with BT ironed out before releasing the OS, the VZW designers couldn't even get the battery icon (notcie that the icon appears sliced in half) fully drawn. Just plain sloppy. Unfotunately, VZW is the only provider with the 7130e in my area so I'm stuck with them. Otherwise, this constant dumbing down of its equipment (I also own a V710 which was so shoddy that it's been the subject of a class action suit) has gotten very old.

Yes to Telus Upgrade
I installed the Tellus software on my Verizon 7130E and since then my Bluetooth and EVDO have worked perfectly. However, it seems that the actually phone connection and clarity is compromised. Has anyone else experienced this?

The last few days of using my 7130e upgraded to Bell's OS version has been great. Bluetooth has worked flawless. EVDO signal has not been lost once. Its been great, knock on wood!
It even fixes the crappy VZW theme and its still crappy! Who knows when VZW will release their update. For those who have not done the upgrade you should.

I too have done the changover to Bell's software, and haven't been happier. I DO wish Verizon would come up with their update though.

I'm perusing the forums via my 7130e right now so searching is hard to do, but as far as I can tell no Verizon customer who has made the switch to Bell's firmware has experienced any adverse issues. Correct? Does it fix the problem with mp3s cutting off the first second and playing only a few times? I've seen in these forums that Verizon is working on a fix for that but didn't know if it was incorporated into the firmware update.

I think I want to change the Telus upgrade on my 7130E to Bell. Can anyone tell me how to do it? I already have the Bell software on my Desktop.

I'm a total newbie here, but I have a VZW 7130e that is less than 2mos old and it appears that my handheld version software is v4.1.0.117 (Platform 2.2.0.53).
I've not experienced the bluetooth issue at all, and unfortunately I live in an area without EVDO coverage (for now waiting for this summer) so I can't comment on EVDO service.
But I thought I'd mention that it seems to me that VZW does have a 4.1 OS. In fact you can download it here.

There is a newer version than 117 and that's what everyone is talking about. Verizon is the last of the carriers offering the 7130e to offer the firmware upgrade.

And the new firware is still in testing at VZW. Hopefully it will be released soon. They've been testing it for 10 days.

I just got the 7130e from Verizon, and it's running version 4.1.0.117. So far, I have not had any problems using my bluetooth headset. I haven't had any rebooting (of course, I've only had the unit 2 days). Am I just lucky, or are bad things about to happen?

I used my Bluetooth handset and Tethering for a few days without problems and then it started. And it only got worse. Then I finally realized it was booting without me knowing it because certain app. 'locations' would go back to initial. And finally it would make me re-pair the headset with the handheld. I eventually got more annoyed with it than it was worth. -Pk

I installed the Bell OS and it has been working flawlessly. Bluetooth, no dropped EVDO connections (using it to type this), and the verizon theme works well now. The battery icon is not screwed up, and when you send sms, the icon will show you a little 'D' when it is delivered to the other handset. I don't remember the 'D' showing up before, but I may have missed it.
To be honest, I think I will wait and see if I upgrade to verizon's code when they release it since this is working well now.

Has anyone been successful in using the 7130 as a modem for an ibook to the internet?
Verizon advertises that it can be tethered and they say that the 7130 can work as a modem to access internet with a mac.
How is it done?

Disregard my earlier posting about things working flawlessly. I'm not getting the rebooting with Bluetooth and the back and forth from 1EV to 1X to 1x.

I just ungraded my Verizon 7130E to Bell's software. (I had rearlier replaced Verizon's with Telus because of problems with 1x, Bluethooth, etc. but was unhappy with the sound quality of the incoming phone calls.) Now it works perfectly! EVDO, phone quality, browser, Bluetooth all good.
Highly recommended. Don't hesitate. The current version of Verizon software will NOT run the 7130E properly. FYI: There's a trick with replacing the application that someone published a while ago on this site. It would be great if that person could put it up again. It was well detailed and clear.
