Default "JVM Error 523" cleared after wipe

Please Login to Remove!

Don't know what initiated it, but I started getting "JVM Error 523" on my Blackberry 8700c.
White screen with tiny font saying "Reset" below the "JVM Error 523" line
Several reset attempts showed the home screen and then crash, same error.
Finally, I turned off the radio quickly when the BB showed the home screen. The crashes stopped!

Went to Options -> Security Options and clicked the wheel to "Wipe Handheld".
Blackberry worked fine after the wipe. Needed to do Enterprise Activation again since I am on a BES.
I then downloaded version 4.2.1.96 for AT&T .
Not only are the crashes gone, the OS upgrades many of the application features.

Normally a wipe doesn't fix the error. Guess you just got lucky there. In any event upgrading the OS is the permanent solution.

Had the same issue one 4 devices last Friday - including my handheld.

I noticed that my hourglass was spinning even when doing very basic things... Soft reset yielded a JVM 523. Tsupport had me wipe the HH with javaloader and reload the OS. During the activation, it 523'd @ 96%. I cracked open a brand new HH, and did and enterprise activation.... At 96% it also 523'd and died. Had 3rd level Tsupport on, but they couldn't help... They claimed I'd get a call back within 3hrs with a fix. I deleted my account from the BES, reloaded the OS on the handheld and re-activated. Everything is OK. The helpdesk was also able to apply the same fix to the affected user handhelds. Not sure what's going on, but it's not good....
