Default Poor Quality on Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I just got my pearl and this 4th one is still defective, the first phone they took out, before they can even activate the whole keyboard does not work, so they couldn't activate the darn thing, the next phone they give me and which I took home, has dust in the screen, so obvious I took it back and they give me another one, before they actually activate the phone I discovered the replacement also have dust in the screen, so they took out another one, that one seems ok so I was home happily until I was playing with it in a dim light, the screen actually has those CRT refresh rate that you can see from a dark screen i.e. the media/ringtone the gray area shows really well that my phone has the lines move up and down and make it seem like a flickering CRT screen. ouch.. I am going to go back again tomorrow.. What's with the quality of those pearls???

I haven't experienced any of those issues myself! Are you getting the device at a corporate store?

Yeah, I got it from the corprate stores, not the agent store. I guess either I am lucky or just that store is having issues with their units. btw, what browser are you using to post that reply?

This is exactly what IV been saying! The build quality is a little off on the new pearl. I'm on my 3rd unit already, the 1st one would reboot everytime I charged it, the 2nd unit had a shaky ball, and now this one has what feels like a week vibrater! And to top it all off when I was playing with my pearl in the dark the other night I noticed the back light behind the keyboard was coming through uneven(brighter in some areas and dimmer in others)I'm freakin out here!I'm embarrassed to go into the store to get another one! As it is all my friends are making fun of me for sending out so many pin changes in 3 weeksand my wife and kids are starting to look at me funny!
Am I nuts?

That is normal. It all depends on how thick the keys are and where the keyboard backlight is physically located in the unit. Even with the backlight directly under a key it may appear dimmer if the key is not uniform in thickness (its not).

I have had mine for a few weeks now and have not had any problems at all, maybe the store did get a bad shipment.

I've been thinking of upgrading to the new 8130 when T-Mobile gets it in my area but if alot of you are having this issue then I don't know if I should. I love my 8100. Haven't had any problems with it (knock on wood) so I think I can sacrifices not having the latest model.

Yeah I think it's time I changed mine again, before I get too bored with it. I'm liking these Foamy The Squirrel icons I found... alot of em have very bad language on them and probably shouldn't be use as avatars haha

My 8130 has been fine...no problems w/build quality. The two other people I know who have Pearls also haven't had any problems. A friend who works at a local VZW store says they are going out like hotcakes and are not getting returned in any significant quantity.

Clearly some people are pickier than others. I fall on the side of extremely picky...especially when it comes to spending good money on something.

Having said that, I find the 8130 to be pretty much bug free. I had one issue where USB Mass Storage wasn't playing nice with Leopard and that has been rectified. Other than that, I can't replicate any of the issues some of you guys are reporting.

Obviously you will find more problems and complaints than positive reports in forums such as these, but I still think some of these issues are pretty isolated.

Perhaps it's time for a poll...

I purchased my Pearl Friday night. Fortunately, I don't have any of the problems you mentioned. My only concern is that the battery cover slides from side to side. I just order a black silicon cover online since VZW stores don’t appear to want to stock the appropriate accessories for the Pearl. But, that's another thread.

Cut a business card in half. Remove the battery cover. Place the card on the battery and close the cover. No move movement and no more flex when typing!

Not had any issues with mine...posted an issue with what I thought was the screen a few days back...turns out it was just lines on the screen protector (which was a relief)

Good key stick, screen is beautiful, had the BSE on it since the 3rd day out of the box...I got mine at a retail store the day before release. I've not had problem one with mine...and I'm loving it.
