I tried uploading an app through the desktop manager using the .alx file. On DM it says that the app was successfully installed and the app appears in the download menu on my phone. On the phone when I try and click on it, it gives me an error. It says: "java.lang.Exception: could not download manifest." Anyone know how to fix it?

This is normal. Sometime has many software risen the exception . Don't worry.
Are you sure this application is compatible for your blackberry.

You can use Aerize card loader to install application from SD card.
or using vnbbUtils (Blackberry Desktop Utilities - has many useful Utilities) to re-install application
