Avvenu free remote access for your Blackberry

Avvenu is a free new service that allows you to remotely access your home or office PC from any browser around the world, including your Blackberry browser. After installing the server program on your computer, you can then access every file on your computer, download files, view pictures, and upload files.

To get started you need to download an application that enables your computer to Avvenu. After the installation assistant has completed, you need to create a user account. General stuff is required in the signup including your real name, your mail address, a username and a password. There is no need to enter any computer information, the service automatically detects your IP address and assigns your computer to the proper username. Think of it as a secure peer-to-peer network.

After the install is complete, you will see a new icon in your system tray. Make sure it is working by hovering your mouse over it and it should say xxx8216;connectedxxx8217;. After that you are set to connect to your computer from your Blackberry. Just point your browser to http://share.avvenu.com/home

Is this Avvenu secure -- I mean, do you feel comfortable to all others to see the path to your desktop or home PC? -- just out of curiosity and the only hold-up in my mind. THNX

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry7100/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Well to be honest I am looking for a programme where I can transfer files by connecting my BlackBerry to my laptop by the usb cable. I really think that set up is very unsecure and vulnerable to hackers

It is not possible to transfer the type of files you want via the USB cable. This is forbidden by design. You can email those files to yourself to get them onto the BlackBerry. Then forward those messages as needed.

Try eFile by dynoplex. I sas it last night so it's untested but I think the free version let's you transfer from your BB to your Desktop/Laptop via USB.

Yes, you can certainly transfer files using our free eFile and eFile Desktop. It uses the Interllisync Add-In interface and basically adds another step to the sync done with contacts etc.

no offense to eFile fans -- you need to be really careful with the eFile -- it has confliction with some java files, which crashed mine BB and desktop. This is the last freeware (besides Google Local) I would put on my beloved BB.

I'm not aware of any conflicts - could you tell me what errors you got?

This may be a great piece of software but I have found with all the eXxxx softwares that the fonts are way to small and its extremely annoying to use as a result. I like the ability to either have the app showing fonts at a comfortable reading level or at the very least let me set them to what I want and remember that setting.

I use www.soonr.com it is similiar to Avvenu.

Soonr also uses SSL. you need an HTML browser on your blackberry that supports SSL.

With Soonr you can email your computer docs to anyone from anywhere (including yourself) using your blackberry.

I find these work-arounds very annoying, but necessary. They work, but using these third party over the air/internet work arounds is alot less secure than just developing an application to move files using the Data cable.

eXxxx - I like it !

As to the small fonts - we have fixed it in version 3.100 and up. Now it uses default BB font.

Which version do you have?

I am not really a computer expert. In a layman's way, how can I transfer a Word.doc file, an excel file and picture file from my laptop to blackberry device model 7100? I have no service provider, I am in a prepaid arrangement only. Is there any free software that can be downloaded?
Need help please, from those who successfully done it. Thanks
