I currently have a 7520, and besides the not having SMS I really have no complaints, but our company now cut a deal with Verizon as our primary phone providor.

I don't have to switch, but being able to use SMS would be an added benefit, plus the cost would be less as I understand with Verizon there is only one plan, as opposed to Nextel's phone plan and data plan.

I know the 7250 looks and I imagine works prety much the same as my 7520, and I have seen the 7130e which screen display looks nice and is much lighter.

The Q looks sharp, lots of features, never had a smartphone - wondering what everyone else would do?

You can use SMS, or rather MMS, with Nextel. Just have to have it added to your account (for a cost of course).

you just have to add blackberry data to your voice plan....

We just went through the same switch. I hated to give up my Telenav that I had with the 7520. As far as SMS goes we were told that it was an extra charge with Verizon even though we have the unlimited BB data plan. A lot of us have been dissapointed with the quality of the Verizon signal. Lots of poor connections and dropped calls. Never was this bad with Nextel.

SMS is an extra charge for Verizon (as it is with all carriers--I don't think it's ever included in the BB unlimited plan). You can add text messaging to Nextel as well so long as you're running 4.1.

With Verizon, SMS is governed by by your voice plan, not your data plan.

It just doesn't have the stability that you've come to enjoy with Blackberry.

The 7250 like the 7520 is a little more rugged than the 7130e. I tried a 7130e but hated the keypad.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but thought people should know...

One needs to trust SureType and give it a bit of time to learn from you, and for you to get used to it.

The first time you type something - like your last name - it can be frustrating, maneuvering to get it right. But the second time you start typing your name, it may LOOK like it's going to screw it up, but if you have faith and just keep going, you'll usually be pleasantly surprised that it will get it right! After about a week, SureType should learn about 80% of what you use regularly and isn't in its standard dictionary.

Also, it acts as a kind of spell check. I had a user that would send me messages that were almost unintelligible on a full keyboard berry. He got a 7100, and suddenly I was getting messages that were easy to read!

It's really a matter of preference, but you need to give it some time before you make up your mind.

It wasn't so much the SureType, I didn't mind that. It was mainly the width of the keypad I had trouble with. I found myself hitting the adjacent keys a lot.

The Q is a brand new device. I'd wait to hear how it does in the field after a couple of months before I'd move to it.

The 7130 is a very nice unit. It's an 8700 in 7100 format. If I didn't just get an 8700, I'd be asking for an eval unit (I do BB support).

Verizon will also be coming out with an 8700 series device very soon - I'd venture to say no later than the end of July, but probably sooner.

If you're supporting more than say 10-15 people, I'd try to stick to the 7130 and 870x. The only significant difference support wise between them is the keyboard, but you'll be giving end users a choice.

As noted before, the Q is NOT a Blackberry (and don't even think about Blackberry Connect - it has YEARS to go before it comes close to a fully blown Blackberry!), and unless you want to support two completely different platforms, you'll be limiting your end user's choices.

Frankly I wouldn't consider the 7250. Sure, you'll save some bucks, but in raw processing speed the 8700/7130 leave it in the dust. Also, the screens on the 8700 and 7130 are significantly more readable in almost any light (except really bright sun natch!).

I bet if you kibitz with Verizon and go for 2 year contracts, they'll knock enough off the 870x/7130 to make it worth while. Make believe you're considering Cingular which has both models NOW. I'm not touting Cingular - just kibitz coaching! Don't forget to think about where people will travel to also. You may need to go with someone other than Verizon or Cingular if they do a lot of foreign travel. I have one user that travels extensively all over Europe and Asia. The only provider he can use is T-Mobile (although we need to revisit that soon).

The Q feels cheap compared to the BB. Most of the reviews I've read have gone on about what wonderful hardware (and horrible software) it has. I'm not certain even the hardware is that wonderful.
