If you're on a BES, you can still use all the functionality of BIS.

BES gives you a totally wireless solution - all PIM functions (Notes, Tasks, Calendar and Contacts) as well as MDS - mobile data services - functionality. If cost is no object, it's an easy solution.

Correct. They'll only sync with outlook when you connect to desktop manager.

if one use's imap (aol) and yahoo accounts, will BES sync ALL folders/subfolders?

I have an inbox with several subfolders I wish to sync - IF NOT, is there any third party software that allows one to move inbox emails to a "saved" folder either on the blackberry or offline?

I too am curious to the real benefits as I am looking to tack on BES to my device even though I have BIS, but being with verizon and how much they over charge use for data usage I want to make sure that the additional $20 a month for BES is actually worth adding to the $45 a month I already pay for data and BIS.

I have two BB's. One on BES and one on BIS. BES emails come immediately and BIS e mails come later. E mails through BIS are sent out in 15 minute increments. I am told this is RIM policy and not carriers policy.

i don't think thats true...i get my emails immediately when i send them to myself from my yahoo or my roadrunner email.

I get my emails about 15-30 secs after sending. I am on BIS with t-mo uk.

I can send myself a e mail on my BES through Cingular and since it is my understanding 2 BB's with same e mail address can't be on BES, my Nextel 7520 which is on BIS comes in anywhere from 2-10 mins later. SoLinc BIS I was told released every 15 mins and I was told by my gov't rep this was RIM policy not to immediately release them. JUst going by what I am told and what I personally witness when both BB's are side by side and I receive an e mail.

I HAVE USED BOTH BIS AND BES.....SECONDS DIFFERENCE.....NO BIG DEAL.....but would go with bes for better attachgment viewing, wireless syncing of outlook .

I'm on BES and BIS, Before I put my BB on the BES at work, I was very happy with BIS and except for the wireless sync of contacts, calender, etc that comes with BES, I was very impressed with the speed of BIS. I forward my primary e-mail account to my BIS and have never had any issues with speed. Everything showed up almost instant.

BES is way better - wireless calendar and todo, plus full reconciliation of the emails - read/unread, folder moves and deletes. Email speed is relatively similar but those other key functionality points are missing from BIS.

what about email moves with an aol imap account? Will emails be moved to desired aol saved folders with BES?

How does one upgrade from BIS?

You do not "upgrade", actually, from BIS to BES. You have to have an exchange server and have it hosted by someone. BES users are often corporate users and the company pays for the server and maintenance. The other option is to use a company to host for you, there are a few that people here use, one is this one:
Blackberry Exchange Hosting - Microsoft Exchange 2003 Hosting. Blackberry wireless solution.

I don't use Outlook so it was not a good fit for me, I use ACT as my contact manager/PIM/calendar.
